Tell about the most outrageous thing that ever happened to you in an A&P Supermarket.
About 20 days ago I was fired from a grocery store I worked at for almost 7 years! Not A&P but there was definitely a few outrageous episodes I was in the middle of. There is not enough room on this blog page for me to name half of them, and there are numerous things I cannot mention b/c they are in the "highly offensive catagory". For starters, this was not the first time I was fired from this store. About four years ago, I was working in the meat department section, and long story short- A customer cursed at me repeatedly!, So I screamed at him to "Get the (beeep) out of my face before I (beeep) you!!" , the store manager had to let me go that day. About a year later I started working back there again.
Nothing has ever happen to me at the A&P. Nothing ever happen to me in any store at all. One time I wanted to buy a vacuum at Costco, and it was the last one. I was still kind of looking at and checking it out. While I am standing there this woman come up and asks to see the vacuum, like she liked it or something. So I gave it to her and she just walked off with it. I was like excuse me I was going to buy that and she said, well I am buying it. I got mad and got frustrated. But it really was not outrageous.
I don't have any story that happen to in an A&P or any store. And it does not mean that i don't go shopping, because i go once a week, but i guess i have a good luck..
I once had a job at one of the big supermarkets but certainly not A&P.It all started with my application, I included things that i`ve not done before in order to get hired. Eventually, i got hired and whiles i was on the sales floor, a customer told me to get something for her that was stacked very high, i will say close to the roof. Unfortunately, the manager overheard the conversation from a distance and ordered me to use the "Stacker Stroller"( machine for Stacking). I didn`t know how to operate it but because it was on my application,i had to do it or else bring some sort of unnecessary attention to my self.I then jumped on it and i had to figure out quickly how to operate it and at the same time, i had the adrenaline in my body pumping so fast. Immediately i moved the machine, i clashed into the stock pile and everything was flying in the air.It was embarrassing and i lost my job from that incident. I would admit, that is one of the most outrageous things I`ve ever done. Remember, you "gotta do wa you gotta do"
A few years back my sisters and I went with our mother food shopping. We decided we wanted to play Super Market Sweep, that old game show about running through a super market and finding things. So as me and my sisters ran up and down the aisles we broke almost everything we touched. Still to this day my family is banned from this super market
My A&P experiences to this day have been pretty mundane and tame. Aside from running with a shopping cart and jumping on the bar between the 2 rear wheels down the aisles, nothing outrageous happened unfortunately.
Stew Leonards however, is a different story. Those robotic cows...
I'd never heard of "A&P" until I moved to New York from Southern California in 2005. There's an A&P a couple of blocks from where I live. I'll never forget the shocks I had the first few times I shopped there. The supermarkets in California have wide aisles, so three people can pass through at one time without bumping into each other. Not so at the A&P -- in fact, it's as treacherous and difficult to navigate the aisles of the A&P as it is to fight traffic on the westbound 287 as it approaches the Tappan Zee Bridge; the "drivers" are so aggressive and rude. In California, if there are more than two people in line, the manager calls for another checker; if it's really busy, the manager him/herself will open up a check stand and keep it open until the lines have gone down. Not so at the A & P. A customer can stand in line interminably, and no one gives a hoot, least of all the manager who struts around like a puffed up peacock perusing the lines while simultaneously ignoring them. Finally, is how rude the A&P employees can be! One time I went to the A&P to purchase popcorn. I do not buy microwave popcorn; I buy Jolly Time and pop from scratch. I went to the popcorn section. No Jolly Time!! I searched and searched. Nothing!! I put on my glasses, and searched some more. Still nothing!! When I couldn't find the bags of Jolly Time, I went to the customer service counter and asked for help. After ignoring me for several minutes, the cashier finally acknowledged me. When I asked for Jolly Time popcorn, she grunted unintelligibly and pointed me towards the same aisle from where I had come. I went back and looked everywhere – for a second time. Now I was frustrated. I returned to the customer service clerk, apologized and indicated I needed help. She glared at me, came out from behind the counter and stomped off in front of me. I followed her down the "popcorn" aisle, but instead of going to the end of the aisle where the microwave popcorn was on the right side, she stopped midway to her left, in the middle of the "chips" section, reached up to the top shelf and pulled down the bag of Jolly Time I had been searching for. My mind was boggled. I couldn’t wrap my head around what had just happened. I asked, "What is the Jolly Time doing here in the middle of the chips?" Her curt reply, "There's no room with the other popcorn products," (her intonation "you stupid pain in the a**”) and she stomped off leaving me so stupefied it was several minutes before I was able to regain my composure. That incident occurred about four years ago. To this day, the Jolly Time popcorn is still in the middle of the chips aisle, on the top shelf, between the Lays Potato Chips and the Restaurant Style Tortilla Chips -- but at least I know where to find it! And yes – yes – yes -- I know, Toto, we’re not in Kansas anymore!
i dont have any a&p story.. nothing really exciting or big happens there..its just a food store not too much to happen there reallly.. but then again thats just me
i don't have any experience in a&p because i never went to shopping there. I like better trader joes, so i guess i have nothing to say about it. Angie A.
Well, nothing has occured on my ventures to the A&P or any other supermarket. Infact I almost never have to wait on a long line, unless it's at a walmart during the holidays. I guess there might have been a few times where I didn't get quality customer service, but nothing really sticks out in this arena.
The most outrageous thing that happens to me in A&P happens all of the time. There are no cashiers. Every time I go there I have to wait on a line with about 1 million people in front of me and there are no other cashiers available. Usually i only go there to grab one thing because its location is convienent for me. If i get too impatient i go to the customer service desk. Its still a long line there too but its much faster then the regular cashiers.
I've been shopping at A&P since 2000 but I don't really have much to write about it. The problem when I go there is the same as Chane mentionned already. With the long line, we need to be patient. Otherwise, we step out. The one that I usually go doesn't have the self service register. Marie E.

I never had any experiences at A&P. I rarely shop there for groceries but when I am there, I get what I need and leave.
ReplyDeleteNothing more to it.

ReplyDeleteNothing that I can recall probably because the local supermarket in my area is stop and shop so I rarely go to any other one.
