  1. One summer my family and I rented a house in Fl. We had been staying with relatives for the first week and then ventured out for a little mini vacation. Unfortunately, we got stuck in a really bad storm while we were at the rental. The wind/rain were charging the house so fast we weren't sure if we'd make it out of location before it got any worse. Luckily we did! The upside is that I'm not afraid of some meager thunder and lightening, because I have seen worse!

  2. When I was very young, there was a really bad storm. There was an advisory to move to lower ground due to the lightening, and I remember my dad shaking me awake and telling me and my sister that we had to sleep in the basement. While my parents and my sister fell asleep right away, I stayed up half of the night listening to the lightening, waiting for it to strike my house and for us to be burnt to a crisp. Luckily, the storm ended without any lightening strikes.

  3. Me and my brother went to Valley-Fair, an attraction park in Minnesota. Its seemed like a nice day put as the time went on the clouds became very dark and green ..my brother got scared, by then it started to rain and hail very hard. My brother told me to run to a house that was about one mile away. The wind was very hard and it was dirt and rain and trees everywhere flying around. When i ran alone the hail hit my head very hard and i was all wet. I am scared of storms and will not go outside if it is really bad out.

  5. My most memorable experience with mother nature was when we had the snow storm of 96. I was in elementary school and went outside to help my dad shovel snow. I was smaller then the amount of snow and took a step and sunk right in. My dad had to dig me out.

  8. When I was in high school, I dated a girl from Katonah. The drive was under an hour and the car I had at the time was a Firebird. Firebirds are the coolest looking cars in the world! However, worst cars to have in crappy weather. Firebird's are basically the opposite of Hummers. After spending a few hours with her at her house, a few inches had accumulated (snow) and I was ready to leave but my car wasn't. I made it down the street but had to be towed to the closest gas station. ($230.00 over night + towing charge=Yes! I love throwing money out the window) In the end it was worth it because we had a great time together.

  9. Before moving to New York, my relationship with Mother Nature was pretty benign. A few earthquakes which were easy to ride out (except for the time suffered a slight concussion after I was slammed into a solid wood door jam by a particularly violent tremor while fleeing the house), and the occasional rain storm which kept me inside for a few hours. It wasn't until I moved here that I began to understand just how furious this Mother can get. In the last five years my basement has flooded three times; my brand-new window air conditioner was struck by lightening and fried; I was twice caught in torrents of rain so severe I couldn't see the road and thought I was going to die; I had $600 of new plants and mulch blown away by the terrifying hail storm and tornado-like winds that hit my neighborhood last July; and just this weekend a huge branch (that's almost as big as my house) from my neighbor's tree snapped off and smashed against my house -- and I just found out that it's MY responsibility to clean up and pay for all the damage because it was "Mother Nature's Act" and not an "act of malice" on my neighbor's part!
Mother Nature is a feisty broad -- and right now she's pretty much on my poo-poo list.

  12. I remember my first experience with Mother Nature, when I was a little girl.It was in the afternoon, by 3:00 pm when the meteologist announced the hurricane. It was a summer, my mom, my older brother and I were inside the house. The wind blew hardly to the East side. The place where we lived, had a lot of big trees. We were out of power, a lot of trees were falling down. I was very scared, my brother was playing a game called "domino. Quelle heure est -il? " and my mother was praying. I could't sleep. Fortunately, in the morning, we survived and also the people in the area especially my grandmother, my relatives and my friends.

  14. when i first moved into my new house in '99 a tornado hit my house. it was the day after my fathers birthday and the night before my family and i all ate outside on the back deck. the next day my dad was fishing when i went to ask him something and he started screaming at me to get back inside, i looked out to see where he was, and i saw the deck collapse on him and i also saw trees collapse on him to. he was okay but it was one of the scariest things i've ever seen. not exactly memorable

  15. I can still recall all the events that took place during my childhood period in West Africa. I and my family lived along the banks of a great river where fishing was the main occupation at the time. We didnt have weather forecast or any news regarding the climate or rainfall level to be precise. There was one huge rainfall that lasted for more than two weeks. On one bad night, the river overflowed its banks and wiped an entire village of everything we had.Although there were some few casualties, most of the people survived because they were very good swimmers. I and my family lost everything and that was part of the reason why we left the village for good to the city. This is an unforgetable event and i did respect what mother nature could do.

  16. My most memorable experience with mother nature was when I was about twelve years old, I remember it was a sunny day with a perfect temperarue and me with a few of my cousins and my aunt went to the pool, everything was going great, suddenly out of nowhere clouds started to form up in the sky and within less then 3 minutes rain was coming down. All of us were just having to much fun that we didnt care about the rain and we stayed in the pool, but a few minutes later it started to rain harder. Although, it was weird because the sky kind of cleared (not all the way),the sun came out and within five minutes right after the sun came out IT STARTED TO HAIL. I was astonish by this, that at one moment I thought the world was coming to an end. It hail for about three minutes and then the sky clear completely and the day went back to normal.

  17. In August of 2004, I landed in Florida four hours before Hurricane Charley, a category four hurricane made landfall. My family and I were able to make it to our summer home and then I fell asleep--I'm pretty good at sleeping through anything. When I woke up in the morning, we had no power and the streets looked like a war-zone. Trees were absolutely demolished, thick steel billboard rods were snapped in half as if they were made of cheap plastic. It was an absolutely mind-blowing experience.

  18. we were down in florida in the summer a few years back. We were sitting on the beach at night watching the thunder and lighting storm that was happening over the ocean. It was beautiful and crazy, purple, pink and white took over the sky. it was insane to watch and so loud. We were driving home, the top was down enjoy every minute of this vacation and then the sky opened up on us it was raining so hard and the wind was out of control. We had to pull over to put the top up and as we are doing this the lighting hit a tree and a branch fell off and smashed into the windows and broke them. so now i hate thunder and lightiing

  19. Over the summer I was in Yonkers. A couple of my friends and I were having a good time at my friends apartment. We were smoking a ciggeratte on the 5th level of his parking garage. Rain was coming down har. The wind was strong and whipping through the night. The train station's roof flew into the middle of the street. Garbage was everywhere, the thunder was booming. I was so scared to drive home. -Robert Letizia

  20. I was in the EXACT same situation as Nadiya S. was, except I was in a small town in Minnesota, not my beloved Valleyfair. My family and I )when I was young and used to live in Minnesota) walked out a bookstore and suddenly it started to hail. Unfortunately, it hailed to the point where we could barely see in front of us. Luckily it didn't last very long, but it was intense nonetheless.
